I believe that coin would have gone for much more on ebay, so I think you did good too.

I think you did well.

Market Value on numismedia for a G4 1921 is $61.00

Fair Market Value is $70.00 for G4
and it looks like you would beat a G4 coin with EASE!

Good pick up in this NON-EXPERT Opinion.

Good buy at that price as an XF. I agree that it would bring more on ebay, as stated. In putting together your set, I'd humbly suggest you look for Fine-VF and better coins, since you've got such sharp detail on the 1921. Well matched sets have more eye-appeal, methinks.

The only one I'm missing now is the 1928. You're gonna have fun putting this set together.

As all have said, and XF 21 Peace for 60 bucks? Yep, all day. The scratches are bad, hence the reason for the price, but they are NOT awful. And as SD said, that is a pretty good strike. All in all a great pick up.

Now, for this...

These idiots send you stuff 4th class mail with no tracking

Say hello to one of those idiots. I send coins such as new quarters or halves by normal post if you get only one or two. To ship with tracking costs a minimum of 1.93. Would you really purchase an Everglades P&D set for .99 and then spend 1.99 on shipping? I charge .69 for the single S coins and .99 for the P&D. And for that minimal charge, you are not getting tracking.

But Don, what about all those places that have free shipping you say. Good question! Those guys do VOLUME. They can afford to not charge shipping. People like me, on the other hand, every penny makes a difference.

Now, on more expensive coins, or multiple less expensive, then I charge the 1.99 and you get tracking. And I do give free shipping if the order is more than 40 bucks.

So unless they are shipping an 09 S VDB with a stamp, I can relate to those idiots.

60 bucks for EF 1921 Peace dollar is a great deal. Red Book says $140 so you got it for less than 50% of its Red Book value. Does it still have a little luster? It is a beautiful coin and next on my list. My local dealer has plenty of them, but his prices are pretty high. He says prices for this coin have gone down recently. I did see 1919-D Liberty Walker in EF (?) on ebay for less than $400. Red Book says $825.
That makes me suspicious because the coin looks good....but?

It definitely has some luster to it. It looks really, really good in hand. Just those scratches hold it back but if they weren't there I definitely wouldn't have been able to afford it!

terry, the Red Book is often, if not always, high on their pricing. A better place to find values would be numismedia (http://www.numismedia.com/fmv/fmv.shtml) or checking the sold listings on ebay.
