I bought this one on ebay a while back. Do you think its a PO-01? Worth getting graded as a lowball? The date is barely legible, but still distinguishable. Thanks!

Real close to FR2 but IMO, it makes PO1.

My thoughts too. There looks to be a bit too much detail in the ear. I've been looking at other Barber quarters in PO1 and FR2. Mine is tough to tell because there is light detail in some areas, and then completely smooth in others. Definitely a good snag for the 7 bucks or so I got it for.

If I were to get it graded, do you think its safe to say that it would receive a grade, ie not a problem coin (other than its condition haha)?
Thanks

Im not familiar with the series, but I would call that a PO1 coin. Barely legible date and straight our wear on all of the coin, pretty cool circulated coin. Ever wonder what all this particular quarter has bought in its lifetime? Probably a lot!

If we are positive of the date and that any mint mark would be legible, it would probably earn the grade.

RedRaider, that's what I've been wondering. It doesn't look like a pocket piece, so all the stuff it must have bought within its circulation days... Oh boy!

SsuperDdave, I think it is a New Orleans. I can't read the date, but the very tops of each number are barely visible, but I think there is enough that a grader would be able to distinguish them. My personal opinion is a 1898. I'm going to my LCS to see if they can do PCGS submissions.

Thank you all for your help! I'll let ya all know how it turns out if I end up getting it graded.

It won't grade if date and mint mark are not sure. If you "think" it's New Orleans....

Not that it matters - Poor Barber coinage is plentiful. These will never be Lowballs. Too easy.

That's true. I didn't think about that. I'll still look into it, but I'll probably just keep it as a novelty sort of thing.
