I thought it would be cool to put a page together for the site with numismatic quotes.

I noticed one the other day, I believe it was Speedy that had it in his signature...

"Coin collecting is the only hobby that you can spend all your money and still have some left."

I like it.

So if y'all have some to contribute, I'll throw a page together.

I once attended an ANA convention where Walter Breen had a question and answer session. He told us something about a Numismatic Dictionary which he was writing. I don't know if he ever finished it before his death. Of the definitions he shared with us the one that stuck with me all these years was his definition for "numismatics". This one is maybe a little cynical. This is how I remember it:

Numismatics: A pursuit involving a veneer of scholarship hiding a core of greed.

I don't know if Walter ever finished this work, but I'm sure there would be lotsa good quotes in there!
Rest in Peace

Ironic. I knew Walter personally and he always felt that there was too much worry about prices and values than about history and research.

Yes, I remember that he started the Q and A session with the statement that he'd answer any questions at all about coins...except...what are my coins worth!

If but for one second, you think you are better than someone else...for that one second you were worse than all...worthless as a tarnished cent lying alone in an empty parking lot!

Breen used to have a column in COINS called Bristles & Barbs. On the flip page was usually Carl Allenbaugh's Expertease. Breen I think really understood coin collectors but Allenbaugh understood why.

"Unfortunately, ideals are made of perfect principles
but men are made of flaws."

Ah, that would be interesting reading, it was probably before my time as a coin collector. It would be nice to read some of those old articles.
