I picked this up today for $3.00
I though it would be a fun addition to my WWII set.

The coin must have been in an album as the Rev. is blazing.
The Obv. is toned red/purple hue.

The 42 has a little doubling going on.
What do you think?

You can see the dye flow towards the rim, I would say VLDS. Nice coin though. That is truly cool.

The same thing is going on with the 4. Die wear/deterioration.

I agree with worn die. You could stretch the truth a bit and call it a poor mans doubled die

So let me understand this.

The grain you see in the field is the dye flow direction.
Because you see the dye flow so well that makes this coin a VLDS.
Because it's a VLDS the detail closer towards the rim gets a little goofy sometimes.

Am I tracking with you?
EDS coins will not show flow lines?
Or at least very minimal.

All coins will show flow lines, but as dies wear you can begin seeing features begin to smear towards the rim. Flow lines become bolder.

The die flow starts in the LDS die state and gets worse in VLDS. All other outside devices start to fall apart as well.
