No, the show is completely staged, by staged I mean the main people are NEVER there unless they are recording an episode. Otherwise they are making appearances and signings elsewhere. The set up is, people come in with things they think are interesting, or worth a lot. Theres a kid that went on the show, that wanted to sell a super rare Nintendo game (Yes Nintendo games can be worth money) but he went on knowing he had no interest in selling, and just wanted exposure for the game to try and increase it's value. People don't just walk off the streets with a $15,000 video game... it's staged, just like all "reality" TV is.

That auction could well be worth what he's asking, but only the 1895 is slabbed and the images are insufficient to evaluate the others. Only a fool would throw the money at it.

The show is, has been, and always will be staged.
My all time favorite coin/currency episode is when a guy named "Bret Bogus" (real name-no kidding!) brought in a bunch of Republic of Texas currency he was trying to unload on Rick. Bret and his notes left the shop together just like the guy with the 1895 dollar.
They have no intention of selling..they are just trying to create interest in what they have.

Yup, they bring almost like a "providence" to that item. Since Pawn Stars has become sort of an Americana show, if it can get a certificate saying that that specific item was featured on the show, the providence has changed from some coin in a random guys basement, to a coin in a random guys basement that was featured on a highly publicized television show. I don't have the energy to find the article about the Nintendo game, but I'm sure it isn't too hard to find, he said he had no intention of selling, since he was asking 3 or so times what it was actually worth, had they bit and actually said, "sure, we'll pay you 3 times more than it's worth" he would've sold it. It's exposure, providence and ratings for a TV show... it's no realer than that Bachelorette TV show, just the Pawn Stars shows interesting things that make people talk.

. I cant believe that's actually on there now, I'mgona get some money together. Its a shame that the show is what it is from what the last two comments say. Can TV ever be real... what a shame. its just another example of how greedy people are these days, it ruins everything else like fake coins and scams. I should also mention that I did ask him a question and g048406, .

Seller states, "ONLY a hundred or so have been located and of those only 50 or so have been graded and certified!"
I guess he thinks he can just make-up anything he wants and states it as fact. The latest pop. count is: NGC - 249 PCGS- 415
total - 664
He's only off by 614 lol

My dad went the other day to the store, they were working there as normal, it is not staged! You can see interveiws of the people on the show on youtube. But I do hate the people that use it as a commercial.

But I do hate the people that use it as a commercial. You're conflating; the fact that it's an ongoing business does not mean that the parts you see on TV aren't scripted. They are. Perhaps some of the stories - maybe most - begin as people wandering in off the street, but they're not risking a poor scene shot. Every similar show does it exactly the same way.

His listing is all jumbled on both my PC and phone, although I'm not using "mainstream" browsers.

In the ebay listing why does the first coin say on the case that it is an "S" mint mark and then the second pic of the obverse depicts that it is a P. He didn't post the reverse of the 1895 dollar.
