Recap on the Before: Into the "soup" for half an hour: It has vastly improved although not all of the "green stuff" has gone. You can still see some "mud" on the surface of the coin and there are signs of BD. Between the top of the head and the legend there appears to be the remains of some silvering, there and other places. I am going back to distilled water and will remove the remainder of the surface dirt and treat the bd. This is going to take some time....

Much better. Are you using the same method you mentioned in an earlier thread?

Yes the same method, but it is going into DW to try and save the silvering.

The scratches don't seem as bad after the operation. I am curious the surfaces seem a bit muddy in appearance after, but seem smooth in unaffected areas on the before photo. Don't get me wrong but there is serious improvement here.

I wasn't as vigerous with the scrubbing after the soaking because I wasn't sure whether I was seeing the remnants of silvering. I will get rid of the mud eventually but slowly does it.

I did with the first one FR, I had loosened quite a but of gunk within the legends and it was all so soft and it just came off. I was a lot more gentle with this.

green stuff looks much better! like AN, I did notice the loss of "smoothness" around the forehead for example.
well, regardless...you have to treat the BD. looks like this coin has had it in the past as well.

I agree, it has a long way to go yet but I will post final pictures eventually.

A dab of preservative oil should restore most of the 'glossy' wet look. The coin is bone dry after the treatment. Some prefer them 'dry' ...... I don't

I will see how things go. I would like to know how much of the silvering remains under the dirt. I think this one will be soaking for some time in DW.

You have gone far enough I believe ....... Possibly a notch too far. Best to err on the side of caution. I would preserve it as is.

I agree with the others, it lost some smoothness but has been improved on other aspects. Good job!

I think the surface of the coin might have been a little porous to begin with. You did and excellent job cleaning it.

After reading... I suppose that: BD must be "Bronze Disease" (In Spain we call this "Cupper Cancer") DW must be "Distilled Water" But I have no idea about the meaning of: ¿FR? ¿AN? and Pishpash... What do you mean when you says "soup"?
