Recent pick up. Color is nice medium chocolate brown but I can't seem to get it exact. Grading opinions appreciated as always! Thanks,RK

I see what appears to be micro-porosity here and there. Color is nice. I think we are looking at wear and strike issues. Nice overall coin! VG10 details.

Well...I'm sure that some folks wont agree with my assessment. The planchet has moderate porosity which many draped bust do due to how they were acquired and stored. Overall the coin is weakly struck. Again typical. There is strong details on both obverse and reverse. The hair bows are fully seperated. Liberty is quite strong. The obvious rim hits will affect grade and value. The lower 2/3 of the reverse is nicely struck with good detail especially the ribbon. Imo the coin grades at VF20 net F12 details

Seeing as all 1800 Half Cents are C-1 the attribution is easy the grade on the other hand is tricky. There is no way this coin grades any higher than VG-10 in my estimation. Plus the porosity has to be taken into consideration along with a rough edge. I would net grade it down to VG-8 because of those issues. Yes it is probably a weak strike but I grade on what I see not on what I'm supposed to see. An excellent coin and a definite rarity. 1800 C-1 R.1 10/8-

I am seeing a nice coin exhibiting otherwise smooth, very finely (micro-porous) surfaces, that in my opinion do not impair grade or value.
A few edge hits and surface impairment are present that do distract.
Now for the actual detail: I would agree that the coin seems to be weakly struck and the actual level of detail is really F15/VF20. CQR says strike weakness does not affect grade, but it does affect value. So where does this put us in terms of final (net) grade? All in all, I would value this coin as a nice VG10.

VG-8
Considering the coin's age, they might not give it a details grade due to the rim bumps.
