What would anyones guess be on this Maria Theresa Taler 1780X restrike I dont have a guide book for these coins yet, it seems to be in very good condition... quite a lot of toning on the coin doesn't show up on the photo to well though.....
What grading would be appropriate for it....thanks.

Without having the coin in hand it's hard to tell which variant it is. There is an excellent web site on Maria Theresia coins. http://www.theresia.name/en/
I would probably grade this as AU-58.

Hello Clinne, and welcome to the forum!

Is this an early restrike, maybe from the 1800s? It looks more crude and, well, older than the modern proof restrike I bought for my daughter. If it is an old coin that can be accurately dated based on die markers then I presume it has numismatic value beyond its silver content.

Perhaps someone will correct me, but I don't think the condition of a modern Maria Teresa restrike matters very much. A buyer might be willing to pay a bit more for a particularly pristine example, but the assignment of a technical grade like EF-40 or MS-63 probably doesn't affect the value. Now, if this is a genuine early piece from the 1700s or 1800s, I expect the condition would then be important!

I agree with Echizento that this coin looks AU. It shows a bit of rub over Maria's portrait and around the rims. If it is a modern coin I'd guess that someone handled it as a pocket piece, since I don't think you can actually spend these anywhere!
