Many people plate them as fakes and just as a science experiment.

to CCF.I have a 1943 LWC plated in copper,a gift from a CCF member(thanks again). If you have a real copper 1943 it is worth big bucks. Weight it is your first step then post a few pics.

Well, the fact that he knows it sticks to a magnet kind of identifies it as a Steelie.

During the 50's, those sort of plating experiments were de rigueur in US Science classes. There are a ton of such coins floating around.

Welcome to CC!

The copper plating of 1943 steel cents is VERY common, I have a couple of them. It is consider PMD since the coins are altered outside of the Mint.

Looks like someone wanted to pass it off as an error coin. PMD

I'm on board with everyone else here. Because it sticks to a magnet, it's PMD (post mint damage).

Yes, I've had several. I had one that was plated, and toned with circulating, making it the EXACT COLOR of a 1943 cent you'd see, or any other normal copper Wheat cent. It wasn't all discolored like the plated ones you see.
