I have to put this out there for jbuck because of his love of graded coins How stupid is this: (scroll down a bit to see the sold MOD set (yes, someone bought it at a premium) http://www.ebay.com/itm/2015-Proof-...047675.l2557Another comment which has nothing to do with the above but goes on the "things that make you go "Hmmmmm" list. Dude lists a NGC70 set as a BIN for $289.95 with free shipping Of course it sold immediately right between a $343 set and a $354 set. Check the market folks before you list anything...just the $1 and the RP would have gotten him the $290

My 3 sets are due to arrive today... to open or not to open. To hold or to flip.
Decisions, decisions...

You have to keep at least one set.

The more I think about this, the more I think opening (regardless of flipping or holding) is the way to go, given the quality control issues with the reverse proof dimes.
If I'm holding them and I get a set with issues, I can return/exchange.
If I'm flipping, and I *don't* check them, that's an instant SNAD claim if there's anything wrong with it. The seller bears the liability and costs.
Thoughts?

I would open them, but I am the curious type.

Reverse proof is hands down one of the ugliest finishes a coin can have.

I think it depends on the coin and the side. I agree that the reverse proof on the obverse of the Roosevelt dime is pretty ugly, but I think the reverse proof on the reverse of an American Silver Eagle looks great.

I got my set today, The dollar looks perfect, the proof dime has a hit in the hair on obverse, the reverse proof looks perfect but a tiny loss of frosting near the rim on one side. I am happy, it is a beautiful set with nice presentation.

Quote: Thoughts? 1) opening or not....a couple of weeks ago I would have said keep them sealed (I did and submitted 10 sets) but now I would probably defer to opening them up. If you are a grading person then the dimes can still be graded with the FDR set label..the $1 should not be the reason for not seeing your coins. 2) Quote:
If I'm holding them and I get a set with issues, I can return/exchange. Return yes, exchange no. Can't exchange for a sold out set 3) I would never trust selling a sealed box. My issue is not with someone stating that the coins have issues but that, instead of a MOD set, a regular unc set (or some other low price set) was inside the sealed box. I doubt that you would have a leg to stand on there.... The only reason to keep the box sealed is if you are planning to have them graded...if not..then open away. Besides most sealed box buyers are also FS/ER label people and that window will be closed next week...

COINS JUST ARRIVED! I was hoping for 3 RP 70's since it seemed like everyone was getting only one from their 10 sets.... Opened the box and checked them one at a time like Xmas presents.... Results (10 sets): Proof dimes: 70's...4 .................69's...5 .................68.....1 $1..............70's...6 .................69's...4 Drum roll....wanted 3 RP 70's RP..............70's...8 .................69.....1 .................68.....1 Thought I would get more PF 70 dimes but never thought there would be that many RP70's...I can live with it
