Here is a link to the auction, but it is over. I have seen the seller sell several high dollar coins and buyers have always been pleased.

As far as Nero looking ugly or odd, this is what he looks like on this coin. I compared it to several prior to bidding. To compare the coin to others like it, it is an AR silver denarius, Nero. RIC 62, SRC 1946, RSC 335, BMC 104.

I could be wrong but I believe I have clicked on that seller via link in this forum in just the past week or two. Maybe it was from the fake sellers link.

I remember the viking arm band and wanting one, but not one from someone who deals in fakes.

I could be wrong though. I haven't been wrong yet all day so odds are I am.

They can keep good feedback since people who know the seller is offering fakes won't bid
and they accept returns for people who find out.

After looking closer, I see the differences from my coin and other real authentic coins. The ears, nose, forehead, chin and mouth are not right. I think it is fake also. Thanks for the education everyone. Hopefully I can successfully get my refund without any drama...lol. No more ebay for me without a second opinion.

There is a sticky section here titled Fake Ancients, which doesn't get much activity considering we see fake coins and sellers of fake coins show up almost on a daily basis. The intention of this section was that newer collectors would see what fakes are out there and would avoid them. There is also a link there on the the Notorious Fake Seller list.

Definitely Fake, and Echizento is right. Read 'Fake Ancients' at the top of the Home page for some valuable ($) information.
Arnoldoe - is that a new Avatar? Great six-pack. Mine is now a 'keg'.

Sorry, but I have to add my voice to the chorus calling it out as a fake. A Bulgarian fake, to be more precise; it's a die match for this one on the FORVM fake database.

As for ebay, I'd definitely recommend that all beginner buyers of ancients stay well, well away from it. There are simply far too many sharks, scammers and otherwise-innocent people passing off fakes, altered coins and mis-identified items. But if you must buy from ebay, then at least avoid anyone listed on the FORVM blacklist. And/or post the link or picture here on CCF and ask for opinions about it before you bid.

We still need a cautious explanatory on ebay bidding, if we do not have one. As usual this was obvious, as all the binds were private parties. It just smelled bad.

Any tips on what my next move should be? I have not received the coin yet. I'm not sure what to say to the seller. ebay may not be able to do anything since I haven't even gotten anything to complain about yet. I feel sort of stuck right now. We need a post called "So you bought a fake on ebay. Now what?" I'll detail the process once I get through it for othets.

SAP, thanks for the link to the database image. It was helpful. Dutchgulden, I followed your advice and it seems to have gone smoothly. I just shipped the coin back today. Be glad to put this behind me.

I don't know what's wrong with it, but whatever it is, it just has a fake look to it. Get your money back if you can. I get most of my coins from shows. How much did you pay?
