I've picked up quite a few 81 uncirculated sets since that SBA had a low mintage (but far from rare). A lot of times those sets are pretty cheap so it's low risk.

I think there's a coin collector in my area, the teller I spoke with today said someone came in and asked for "silver dollars" and "Kennedy halves." I hope this person didn't get any silver, because I was going to ask about that. But at some point, I'm going to a different branch to see if I can get another silver, unless my score back in February was just beginner's luck...

I have the SBA page in my Ike album. I was fortunate to find a 1979P wide rim from a teller tray early on to complete it. I actually hate getting them and having to spend them in the $100K half / dollar project because I am always expecting the cashier to count them as quarters or say they aren't real.

I have my SBAs in a Whitman Classic album. Missing the two costlier Type-II proofs of course. Nice little set.

I never find SBA's in circulation and usually buy them somewhere if I have to

What's the deal with the SBA souvenir set envelopes? Why do some of them from the same year have a green envelope with smaller print while others have much larger print and a different overall look to the envelope? Just curious...

Quote:What's the deal with the SBA souvenir set envelopes? Not really sure ... could only guess. My guess would be, the three mints P,D and S each have their own gift shop. Maybe the different mints had different envelopes. Or maybe ... they sold out during the year .. ordered new envelopes .. that were different. Anyway you look at it ... just guessing

Does anyone know how the 1979P SBA Wide-rims were released? Were they only in Mint Sets? Or through general circulation via bank rolls? Smalldollars.com states "Late in 1979 the border was widened to give the coin a more aesthetic appearance", which is the consensuses of other websites. But no one mentions how these coins became available to the public.

If I remember correctly, they were issued right at the end of 1979 production. I don't know if any ended up in mint sets.

Other than the SBA's for type sets this is my entire SBA collection. This obsolete Capital Plastics holder, 430-A, is actually quite rare. Since so few people were willing to pay their price for this holder it was not in production very long. The holder does NOT make them look any better, ugly is still ugly.
