All I can see so far is Machine Doubling. How about a closeup of the motto and the designer initials?

I hope the op didn't pay 42/1 prices for this coin. Also, is PCGS going to refund the purchase price that the op paid because they (PCGS) mislabeled the coin? John1

Pcgs should pay the difference of what it is and what it's labeled no?

I don't see a 42/41 at all. And as to the doubling, if it were mine I'd send it to another TPGS such as NGC or someone else. Just to much doubling on everything.

B.t.w... I haven't "paid" for the item yet, tho it is currently consigned to me, from a business partner of mine. However, I will be very disappointed if it turns out not to be a genuine 42/1, and also loose a little faith in PCGS... It's kind of funny ebay doesn't recognize ICCS, but PCGS is the best in the business? Hmm... I've also bought a tonne of NGC slabs, with coins labeled MS67, MS68, & MS69, when in reality, they are of prooflike finish, and not a tenth of the value....should they not be responsible for these types of mixups as well? -frustrated, confused, and wanting to get this piece on the block a.s.a.p! Thanks a lot to all who have been helping!! Keep it comming!

Quote: It HAS to be a 42/1, because all the tells are there, No, they aren't. The single strongest pickup for this variety - the remainder of the 1 under the 2 - is not there.

Anyone know about PCGS policy on such issues?

PCGS has varying review procedures in place, and this coin appears to fall squarely under their Guarantee. It ought to go back for a Guarantee Review.

Wow...i.am.floored. this is DIRECTLY from the PCGS website under things NOT covered by their "guarantee"... variety attribution that is obviously incorrect. For example, if you had a normal date 1942 Mercury dime, but the PCGS holder showed the coin as a much rarer 1942/1 overdate, this coin would not be covered by the PCGS Guarantee as the date is obviously normal. Another example would be if you had a 1945 Mercury dime with an obviously normal size mint mark, but the PCGS holder showed the coin as a "Micro S." This coin would not be covered by the PCGS Guarantee since the mint mark is obviously normal size. ----- It's almost as if they caught their error, and expect me to call in the future...haha!! So what now? What the flip PCGS!! B.t.w...this is not something I would call obvious...

I saw it instantly, as did everyone else here who actually knows the overdate. Yes, it's obvious. And now you know why I talk the way I do about PCGS in these pages. Nothing would please me more than to see them run off the road and taken over by real numismatists for whom profit wasn't the only bottom line.

Not that a I am disagreeing with you, but when PCGS uses the term obvious, it has to apply to the general public, and people that are NOT absolute experts on the variety. The entire reason for certifying coins is to take the guess work out of things for buyers...If I never knew before today what a 41/2 was, I should have been able to buy that slab in confidence that it is what it says it is... that's all I meant by not obvious... What a bunch of nonsense this piece turned out to be!! Also a real eye-opener to the world of American TPG companies...I don't care what anyone says, until I see proof otherwise, ICCS should rein supreme over both NGC and PCGS...I mean seriously...what professional grader can't tell the difference between an MS coin and a PL...on multiple occasions!! I am looking at a "finest known" MS coin by NGC, and it is a clear as day prooflike.. a price difference of OVER 100×! So basically, I have a bullion coin in a $500+ U.S slab...bravo PCGS....bravo.
