@LeeG: Yes, I hope you reconsider and continue with the thread.
I apologize if I've 'stepped on your toes" in the thread. My first inclination is to educate, so I was trying to offer additional insights to the questions with my responses. I will stop if you prefer.

@ LeeG ...
My preference is that you continue the thread ... many of our newer commemorative fans are enjoying the challenge.
That said ... some level of disclosure as to the reference you are using would be helpful ... there are experts here who likely are more knowledgeable than the author of whatever reference you are using.
Your call of course ...
Best - David

I want to apologize for my lack of professionalism. Some times I have a thin skin and come off in the wrong way. To those who I may have offended, my apologies. I welcome all to please reply to my posts, whether positive or negative, all of you are most welcome to do so. Let's start off with a fresh approach: The reference I am using for this quiz is " the Commemorative Trail, Fall -- Winter 1990, Volume 6 - #3, the newsletter of the Society for U.S. Commemorative Coins, by Rick Wilson (R-1325, TX)." This Quiz pertains to the early classics, 1892-1954. A little background on me: I have been doing research on this series since I worked at David Lawrence Rare Coins in 2008. At that time I was just posting my lessons to coin message boards. Quite a few members stated, hey Lee, you need to write a book. I felt, yeah, let me do that. I've been researching the early commemorative series every since. I interviewed and accepted a position at NGC as the Special Projects Coordinator. I turned it down two weeks later. I am a retired U.S. Navy Senior Chief and had spent enough time away from my family, so that's why I turned down the offer. Roger Burdette has been my mentor and written the forward to my book. My goal is that this book is for collectors. There will be no market pricing, POP reports or anything else of that nature. Just the coin, people, events, and celebration, if any, behind the coin. Sorry for the long post. How many different commemorative type coins were minted during 1935? A. 7 B. 5 C. 3 D. 9 Enjoy!

@LeeG: Good to see that you're continuing with the quiz and have posted the source of the questions.
I feel I would be remiss, however, if I didn't respond to your edited post regarding nickelsearcher. He is a VERY knowledgeable collector with expertise in multiple areas; he has a particular interest in the US commemorative series. He has contributed much to the knowledge shared here in the commemorative forum and I feel should be commended for his efforts, not otherwise.

Quote: How many different commemorative type coins were minted during 1935?
Correct answer according to my reference is "A" - 7.
Arkansas Boone Connecticut Hudson Old Spanish Trail San Diego Texas True, but if you consider that there are two varieties of the 1935 Boone -- one with a small "1934" on the reverse and one without it -- "8" would also be a correct answer! Quote: Which commemorative has a fleur-de-lis on its reverse? Trick question alert! While "D. New Rochelle" is definitely true, it is not the only one. The reverse of the Texas Centennial half dollar depicts the six flags that have flown over Texas in its history. The French flag at the time had a white field with multiple golden fleur-de-lis on its. They may be very difficult to see, but technically they are there. Do a Google Images search for "flags over Texas" if you're not familiar with the six flags.

@ LeeG ... I'm pleased that you are still with us and willing to contribute to the CCF. An unfortunate nature of internet communications is that words are often exchanged without clear intent ... and in that spirit offer my understanding and apology if anything I said offended you. Truly appreciated the biographical interlude ... and the source reference for your quiz. I extend to you my sincere Thanks for your service in the USA Navy ... Senior Master Chief is a significant career accomplishment indeed. I'm with jbuck and the others with the answer to your latest quiz question ... 1938 New Rochelle (NY) Half Dollar. commems is of course correct in his comments ... but it takes an expertise deeper than mine to know that fact. To add a bit of interest to your quiz ... occasional photos from my certified classic sliver commemorative circulated set .. 1938 New Rochelle (NY) Half Dollar - PCGS XF45 Truly looking forward to whatever you have to share with us. David
