Canada 1 Cent 1929 High Nine? - Coin Community Forum

SolarPenny Valued Member Canada 234 Posts	Posted 05/27/2015 6:27 pm Wondering if the top coin is a "high 9" variety. It was labelled as such when I bought it but wasn't aware of the variety until I brought it home, didn't pay much for it so thought it was worth checking out. The bottom one is the only 1929 I have to compare to, I see a bit of a difference but still not sure. Thanks! Report this Post to the Staff

pennysaver Pillar of the Community Canada 937 Posts	Posted 05/27/2015 7:20 pm It's not quite a High 9, SolarPenny, it's more of a "Medium 9". The true High 9 has the bottom of the tail of the 9 more in line with the bottom of the 2. There are a few different variations in the placement of the 9 causing more than one collector to shake his head in puzzlement while trying to identify his/her variety. Report this Post to the Staff

I just did a quick search on my phone while I was there and saw that coins and canada had it at $21 for AG-3 so I figured I would pick it up and if it wasn't worth anything then I wouldn't lose much anyways haha. I was able to pick up a 1894 large cent and a 1957 1WL silver dollar as well today and just added this 29' cent last minute. I think I did well enough on the other two to make up for this one.
