I won this coin on ebay, but have not received it yet. Is the flatness on the right side of the obverse some sort of mint error or is this post-mint damage?
My vote is Struck Through Grease error. Seems like PMD would have done some type of damage on the reverse, even if only minor. I can't see any.
I will agree that it seems like that side flares out a bit, but that could be an illusion. I pain editing tool, circle selection, would solve that problem.
The denticles should be of equal size all the way around the coin. They start to get longer at approx. the 1:00 location, through the area in question, all the way down to about 6:00. This would indicate PMD of some type.
I received the coin today. The reverse is also slightly distorted and the rim in angled in from the obverse side, so I would guess that someone hit the coin to do the damage to the obverse.
