That's a nice 1980 woodie! Straight lined is the type of woodie you will find in this era but this one is especially nice and contrasting!

Cool. I found my second Woodie. Yes, I think it has that "appeal" too. I see what you're saying about the striation lines matching, gymcoachdon. I will certainly take that into consideration when authenticating future Woodies. Thanks all.

"Gold" is okay tweak, It doesn't have to look like wood. Read the previous page, in particular read what Koinpro (Ken Potter) said. He mentioned "gold".
Eight years is long enough to wait, it is time to search a few more. lol

Lol that's too long haha I just never seen it so it was confusing to me but it is pretty probably better than the dull ones. ;)

I saw one on here that was gorgeous. It looked almost like Ponderosa Pine. This one is Gorgeous Gold. To me, they're like apples and oranges. Cascade seems to like them too.

I'm a lover of all coins with beautiful toning
I just recently started looking at woodies after getting a few. I also like how a flaw (improperLY mixed alloy) can look so beautiful. Coinmasters, why don't you start a woodie set too and years from now we can see who finishes first

Sounds like a plan, Cascade. Woodies have to be the coins with the most eye appeal. Did you know they can be only on one side? I think they can be other denominations as well. I suspected this to be one, but wasn't sure if it could be with the color it is-now we know. I posted a 2008 P Nickel a while back. I'll put it here in couple minutes.

The obverse is what carpenters refer to as clear wood, very little grain and only one knot.

My photography skills when I took these were even worse than they are today. The nickel actually appears to be "brownish".

I don't believe the 1980 is actuyally a woodie. Looks acid streaked to me like you get when you leave a coin in dip a bit too long.
