Shouldn't artificially toned coins be graded as "Details"? I mean the coin was "damaged" by the actions of a person, kind of like a cleaning or polishing.

Leaving a coin out in the air to tone naturally does not make it artificial toning....it's what silver does.

Now... helping the process along with "things" would change the issue.

Yeah a silver coin from 2014 will not have Super Tone by itself by 2015. No chance at that. But does look nice

No way a 2014 has super rainbow concentric circles around the center only in 1 year by being handled normally. So is it a "details" coin at that point if graded? That was the question.

The pattern is not what you should be focusing on. Its the type of color & progressions of those colors that hold the truth. Once you study true progressions and the stage of those progressions most AT coins will jump out at you like a $20 bill printed on cardstock!
Rest in Peace

A raw Silver Eagle has no numismatic value so ATing one will do nothing negative to the value. It was and still is worth 1 ounce of silver. But...it looks like people are paying a premium for some of the better looking toned examples.

A quick look at street pricing for different years of ASE's will show that not to be true. True, A 2014 doesn't have any premium yet, but ones from the 80s and 90s are selling for quite a bit more than bullion value.
