Quote: I would consider the post-2005 nickels to be a change in design. I hate it, but it technically counts. True. Maybe it would be more accurate to say we have not had an obverse subject change since 1964, but that would be a lie considering the one dollar coin has changed many times since then.

Yeah. I guess that things are never as cut-and-dried as they seem.

No problem. For what it is worth, I knew exactly what you meant when you posted it. Besides, the one dollar coin is a rather special case anyway.

Personally, they should circulate the small dollar coins or drop them. They need to discontinue the half too. As for the others, I don't mind leaving them as is, although doing a limited reverse commemorative on the dime like they did on the cent and nickels would be cool.

Not that it ever WOULD happen, but I would LOVE to see circulating coinage like the 1916 gold coins coming out next year and.... loose the penny. Not sure about a new nickel. Thinking.....

I think our coins would benefit from some size adjustments as well. The Euro 20c and above are in wide circulation here in southern Spain. The 1, 5, and 10 not so much because the cashiers tend to round to the nearest. Here are some pictures to demonstrate the size differences. Carrying a pocked full of Euro is not very annoying to me.

I think that other than say the Presidential dollars and maybe the penny (at least for a few more years) we should take all of the president off the obverses, I am in love with the flying eagle and would love to see it come back somehow.

jbuck, You for got to correct batboy's suggestion on dropping the half, to "The should drop the cent, nickel and quarter, replace the quarter with the reissued 20 cent coin, RESIZE AND CIRCULATE the half, eliminate the $2 note, and make a bimetallic $2 coin, and round to the nearest dime" There. Now its completely fixed. Hey, Half, isn't there a "2 cent" Euro coin that you forgot to mention? If we kept our one cent coins here in the U.S., I wish we'd reissue our 2 cent coin, and get it into circulation somehow.

A 2 cent coin would be twice as worthless as the cent is now. Drop the cent now.

n9jig, I just want a two 2-cent coin so I could carry two 2-cent coins, as opposed to four 1-cent coins, same as my logic of four $1 coins vs. two $2 coins. If the 2-cent coin would even circulate, which the chances are probably not good.

I've thought it would be cool to have new shared themes across all the coins, to be changed every 5 years or so.
One series could be space. The half-dollar could be dedicated to exploration of Jupiter (since it's the largest coin), the dime could have the moon (since it's the smallest coin). Perhaps the quarter could have Mars.
