My wife would kill me, then divorce me, then kill me again just to make sure I stayed dead if I spent that much on a coin...now if I spent that much on jewelery for her, that would be a different story. ;)

When my misses and I go married we made an agreement; I could buy anything I wanted for myself and price was no object. The same went for her. Now the catch, whatever I spend on me that is not a necessity, i.e clothes, medications, home or work related items, I have to give her the same amount to spend on her. and she has to do the same for me. Thus a $10,000 coin would cost me $20,000 and that's a lot for a coin. think about it paying twice the value. Interesting fact. as long as I keep my hobby expenses reasonable, she does not want matching money.

So far never have. Not even close. Same with cars, guns, knives, etc. I did buy a car once for a little more than that, but never again. Not even sure if I've seen a coin for that price in long, long time.

It might just be my age, being only 16 and not having to make mortgage payments and buy food etc, but I think I would spend that much on a coin if I could afford it. Nonetheless, I voted "No, I would never be able to save up that much for a single coin." because I have tried saving up for $1000 coins, and I always seem to lose interest on said coin, and start spending $50 on coins here and there and soon all my savings are gone. Its like climbing a mountain, then having an avalanche take you to the bottom, where you are holding 5 coins but not the one at the top of the mountain. I feel I would lose interest in my $10000+ coin before I was even close to being able to buy it.

Way too dangerous from a financial point of view.
For $10,000, you could buy complete sets of pretty much everything since 1900 and then you're covering all bets. If halves become popular, you got 'em. If the congress decides to kill the quarter and they go through the roof, you got 'em.
Buying a 10,000 dollar coin isn't really "collecting", I guess. At least not for most of us!

There are a few special coins that can command a $10,000 price tag. If the oppprtunity comes up and it's a good deal, I'll be all over it.

The Magna Carta just sold for 15 million dollars. I've been refraining from this old used car salesman's axiom on this forum so far, regarding what people do or would buy.
Ready?
There's an #$%hole for every seat. I aint one of them.

Agreed j_h_s,
However, I think that price for the Magna Carta is a good one. We're talking about one of the most important legal documents in the history of democracy. Just think what the original United States Constitution would bring if ever put in an auction.

If I can save up $1000 a month then yes or if I can get a job/contract that can pay me $10K in one payment or if I can get a paycheck for $10K. None of those condition will happen any time soon, but then I would love to own such coins: 1856 FE in XF/AU, 1922 No D Lincoln in MS, 1926S Lincoln in MS64....... those are HISTORY that I want to hold in my hand.... OR may be I can go on ebay and start selling "Proven Idea on How to Make Money Investing in Coins"... then use those money to buy my $10K coin.....

It would probably cost me that much to pay for the doctor bills that I would incure while having the coin surgically removed from the location my wife would place it.

i would buy it only to resell for a profit. A nice keydate hold a year maybe 2 and then sell for a profit.

If I spent that much on one coin, it would be an investment. I'd have to be pretty sure that it would appreciate significantly and that I would be able to unload it when the time came.
