Hello everyone! I'm Ben. From Owasso Oklahoma! I've recently gotten into the hobby of coin collecting! My favorite coins to CRH are pennies and nickels. I have stumbled upon a 1938 nickel and a 1924 penny. Could anyone tell me if I've gotten a coin worth something or just a old coin worth keeping. Thanks for everything! I'm happy to join the community!

to CCF. Value depends on condition.

Nice to have you aboard. We usually like to see pictures of your finds before discussing them.

Do you need any help here?

to ccf...

Without seeing pictures it's hard to value things, because condition is such an important part of value. Whatever you do, don't clean coins - that old original look is a huge part of the value.

In 1938, the Denver and San Francisco mints made Buffalo nickels (so called because of the bison on the back). The Philadelpha mint started making the new nickels with Jefferson's portrait on the front. Which do you have?

Mine is a Jefferson nickel. I think it's in decent condition, but yet again I'm a newbie. I'm not sure how to take pictures. It's taking me through all this optimizing stuff, and making my picture all funky. Help would be much appreciated

to CCF Ben! My name is also Ben, and I live in omaha Nebraska!

Anyways, I would say that the Jefferson nickel is worth about $0.75, maybe more if it has a mint mark.

Haha that sounds about right. On the cointrackers.com it said it could be up to $1800 which I thought was a little strange. Thanks for the info!

I thought it was pretty neato that I got a 1938 nickel and a 1924 penny that quickly. I see that your oldest nickel is a 1941. I guess it's just beginners luck. Yesterday I did pick up the 2016 Red Book. Pretty informative! BTW awesome name Ben! :D

Yeah! It sometimes seem that there aren't any good coins out there anymore, because millions of people have looked through coins, and probably collected all the old/interesting coins. I won't give up though!
