@nummisma

Yes... I like to try new things every once in awhile.

Being serious... it all in the fun. I used to teach math (and computer programming). We talked about random numbers.

Long story short, I figured since humans are pattern-bound to the core, that there was likely a "normal" random number. This also might explain how it ended up being Douglas Adam's "answer to Life the Universe and Everything" - instead of some other number.

For a few years my kids (students) and I had fun tracking specific random numbers that we also chose at random and compared how many times we encountered them compared to 42. 42 was almost always the winner

I cannot say the data was psychologically biased with so many kids and their individual degrees of desiring to see the data indicate the theory wrong/correct. Some hated the number and some thought it funny

I did get accused of changing the way they looked at the world though - they forever would be noticing the many 42s... and a lot of them still refer to this when talking with me today up to 20+ years later

I am guessing the chaos theory of math might be applied here... been on the to do list for years, just not at the top.

Earle- Interesting story. See, whenever I've experienced a lot of people guessing random numbers, they tend to guess 37.
Rest in Peace

Count me in!

The 37 on the end of my username means absolutely nothing; it was just something that randomly popped into my head when I was signing up.
