it is damaged on the reverse so it's only worth about $2 to us

Nope, look at the feathers right to the date, they are larger. That's a key characteristic of a 1864 small motto.

Small motto, definitely. Look at the end of the ribbon on the right side, they're even. Plus you can easily see the T in trust is right up against the WE.

Date position looks good for sm motto. Not sure about the feathers. Need closer, clear picture of the top half of obverse without the plastic film over it to see the leaves and stem config.

The banner does suggest small motto. Apologies for my adamancy....probably why this is the only one (2¢) I've not been able to cherrypick...... Kudos for the lesson!

Same way you added the first pics. No reason why they have to be in your first post.

The Small Motto 2C can be identified into basal state from the banner tips. This is a Small Motto coin. I won't attempt a grade on a coin whose features are being smudged by plastic, but this is likely a $100-ish coin.
