I already tried the dishwasher bit but all it did was tone the coins on the dry cycle and leave spots on them (easily wiped off with Choreboy).

They are now over here too running a TV add for Cillit bang cleaner
You put in a dirty coin and out comes a new one ( shocking )
Rest in Peace

Hehehehehe.

I'm trying to remember if I ever entertained the thought of cleaning a coin and nothing pops into my mind. I think my grandmother put it into my head beaucoup decades ago that messing with a coin is a no-no. She wouldn't even let me handle a coin with my bare hands; fingerprints are bad! She even handled the church collection coins with gloves so if she found a keeper, she wouldn't tarnish it.

When my grandfather got me interested in coin collecting in 1971, he told me never to clean a coin. This was while many people were still doing it. He always tended to be ahead of his time. He was so adamant about it that I never forgot it. As a result, I have difficulties giving a coin an acetone bath even to remove PVC.

Thank you susan. I don't want to send it into NCS because I can't afford it. Acetone wont damage it right?

What type of coin are you trying to clean and why do you need to clean it? Does it have PVC or another contaminate on it?
