I generally have a list of what I have fresh in my mind, but it certainly happens that I wonder whether or not I have that particular coin. I am generally happy to get duplicates if not for trades, but there are the occasions where there's not just a duplicate, but rather a triplicate, and so on. Some coins are just too abundant and worthless, many of which being pre-euro coins and Turkish coins to wrap around my experience in Europe. I like to have atleast one type coin from every country before I start throwing them out (figuratively!). Value is tricky since there's just so many types everywhere.
A good place to start if you've got no or just a few world coins is to buy a 'starting lot' of a few kilogrammes from ebay or wherever. Usually there's mostly common coins in there but if you're starting out, there's a whole lot to learn. The coins get very cheap per piece.
The world is a big place, it's an extremely wide collection range!
I have to say that the concept of 'world coins' is so subjective it's almost ridiculous! Remember that for me, living in Sweden and mostly dealing with Swedish coins, US & Canadian coins are world coins here

X2an nice pickups. Do you keep track of what you have so you don't get duplicates or are you Ok getting duplicates? What makes you pick out the coins you find? I am just starting into WW coins.
