I just spoke to a teller that worked at a different bank in the area. She said the other bank can order Ike bags. Looking into it and will keep you posted. I love the Ike.

There was a question earlier about where to get wrappers for the large dollars. You can find them for cheap on ebay.

Hey so I know I have asked this before but not sure of the response. Is it worth paying a premium over face for Eisenhowers? I know a reputable source for unsearched ikes, but they charge a premium over face plus shipping.

I'm most impressed with the 1973's! I'm envious....been looking for one of those in the wild for some time now. Way to go!

As to how scarce 1976 Type I is compared to Type II, I remember when these were issued my Grandfather and I would always ask for Ikes at the bank (not rolls - just loose ones) each week. We were looking for a type I and never got one from circulation. in fact, back then when the two types were discovered, the Type I was said to be more rare and worth a premium over the Type II.
These are just memories from that era.

I still remember opening the 1971 S proof sets he ordered for us and seeing my first proof coins - and especially one being the "new" Ike silver dollar. Man what an impression that made. Of course I still remember opening the Bicentennial silver sets and seeing that beautiful Liberty Bell design. Remember special designs were really "special" back since they had not been done before ... ergo a lot more exciting. Like you said - some great memories

Unless a "Brown Ike" came with that 1971 proof set order, you were not going to see one.

Sorry - I meant the 1973 set - good catch from the local Ike guru!
It was the first year we had ordered proof sets. The design was still "new" to me and it was the first proof Ike I had ever seen. I still have that set with its beat up OGP cardboard cover (from me opening it and looking at it so often back then). I should go get this and look at it again. Its been a long time.

I can try to get to it soon. Like everything else - its in a safe deposit. I think we ordered 5 sets that year - likely still have the box they came in so will get all it in the pics.

I figured 1973 is what you meant, Earle. An honest mistake. I have probably made worse.
