Morning all,

I always struggle with identifying early British hammered coins. Especially the time period: Any assistance would be appreciated:

1) Weight: 1.3 grams Diameter: 19 mm

3) Weight: 1.3 grams Diameter: 18.5 mm

4) Weight: 0.5 grams Diameter: 15 - 16 mm

this one has a distinct triangle on the back of the coin. Not sure if that was during the hammering process or added afterwards

Well I recognised them as Henry III long cross penny (Think I can see Henricus?III around the portrait) and the second one looks like an Edward III penny (This one I can see Edward?REX written around the portrait) Not sure on the next two though number 3 also looks like an Edward I to my untrained eye, but there are so many similar looking coins and varieties with these and with old worn coins it is hard to spot the details which are clue to what they are exactly.

Sorry if I couldn't nail it down, even with a copy of spinks in my hand I just don't know enough about this field, but sure someone more knowledgably can narrow it down for you.

Thanks DavidUK - I got the same with Spinks as an aid - The last 2 are difficult. Problem with these is that there is almost never a weight and diameter reference to nail it down....

With that triangle the last one could be an Irish penny
