Hi, my brother randomly gave me this coin one day which appears to be 5 Austrian Corona from 1900. I'm not really a coin collector (though I have some interest in getting into it) and don't plan on selling it, but I'm curious as to the value of the coin and maybe whether it's even real, as may be obvious if I post a photo:

I couldn't get a good shot of the sides, but there are some embellishments and it says VNITIS on the bottom and VI(Obscured by attached metal loop)IRVS on top.

It looks like the coin was turned into a souvenir or something, there's a metal loop attached with a keychain. Other than that it seems like it's in good condition. I weighed it on an electric kitchen scale and it came out to 37 grams, or 27-32 if I tried lightly lifting the keychain to offset it's change in the original coin's weight.

So yeah, I'm curious whether you think this is legit, and if a coin is considered to have value (or as much value) if it's had a horrible keychain thing attached to it.

I think the coin's real. Doesn't have any obvious tells of a fake.

The coin is made out of 25 grams of .900 silver (please correct me if I'm wrong, Latin Monetary Union standard), which would be about $12 in today's silver value.

Because the coin is, well no longer a coin only, but something is attached to it, saldy that lowers value (collectors tend to look for undamaged/modified coins and pay more for these). I can't say anything more about value than it's worth at lowest its silver value of about $12.

Alright, thanks. I'll probably just look for some way to cut that darn keychain off and keep it for myself. Now I can brag about owning a low value silver coin from the Austro-Hungarian Empire, a win in my book.

If you cut the chain that will leave 'signature' too. But all things considered, I don't see why not.
But yeah, those are very nice big silver coins. To me it looks real. Oh, and the edge reads: VNITIS VIRIBVS (With United Forces).
