"mirabilis in oculus nostris" = marvelous in our eyes
It says nothing of 'our lord'.
It is propably not even catholic, but a pagan tribute to the sun and the moon.

Pagan?! The full Bible verse, Mark 12:11, is "a Domino factum est istud et est mirabile in oculis nostris," "This was the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes." This verse first appeared on the English gold angel coinage of the Catholic Queen Mary I, but the the Protestant James I left off "mirabile in oculis nostris," as references to miracles sounded too Catholic. Was this token intended to resurrect the phrase, by Catholics in Protestant England?

Thanks all for the replies.

I was thinking it was "British" in some way as the moon side does remind me of Britannia, no idea who the sun side is though.

Apollo the sun god on one face, his twin sister Artemis the moon goddess on the other face, seems more pagan than Christian to me.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...
