I rescued this SD from a mint set . It was covered in the red packaging and I got the red gunk off but as you can see there is still some remaining residue left on the obverse of the coin.
Has any one had any luck getting the remaining residue off leaving a nice shiny surface(like the reverse) without scratching the surface.
Any help on this issue would be appreciated.

If that was mine, I'd leave it alone. Looks almost like it was ment to be like that.

Acetone always works. Just do a search for it on the forum and you will get many helpful results on how to clean with acetone.

Beautiful coin by the way!

@TypeCoin971973 thanks ! I really like the toning on it.
I got it to this point using the acetone. That is as far as the acetone would clean it.Was hoping to get it just a bit cleaner on the obverse but I might have to do what just carl says and leave it .

I don't believe you're going to get the obverse any better and I don't think you need to. It looks great, nice coin.

Remember that toning is now part of the coin's metal. Removing it will take off that metal so again, I say leave well enough alone.

Hi there T1Steel, I soaked mine in distilled
water and gave a soft wipe with a q tip and diluted Baby
shampoo in distilled water. Came out nice. The Nickel
Dollar still had some toning, but the back of the silver
dollar came out nice. Penny obverse in mine was blue,
very cool, see the story here.

@SilverDon thanks for the link. I knew I had seen it before but could not find it.
You did a great job on your set.

That red flock lined plastic should be cleaned thoroughly to get rid of all
flock. Take it outside and brush down wind and then wash with mild soapy water.
Thanks T1Steel, nice toners come out of these sets.

I would not do anything more than a rinse with distilled water and/or acetone. The coloring on that reverse is gorgeous and I would not do anything to try and remove it.
