I know this is not the right forum for this, but I'm sure some of you guys metal detect as well. Me and my family like to go to a private campground that's about 10sq miles. Hundreds of campers stay in these sites, and go fishing, hunting, and mostly 4-wheeling. It was established in 1972. Do you think if I brought a metal detector to the campground (It's called Cloud 9 Ranch. It's in Missouri) I would find any older coins, or just stinkin zincolns? Thanks *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

If it's like any campground I've been at, I bet you find a ton of beer caps.

Dave is right - you'll find a ton of beer/soda can tabs. But you will also find a bunch of change especially around where they used to keep soda machines. 1972 as a starting point means you'll find mainly clad coinage in my experience. If you're looking for old, then that wont likely happen...much anyway. However, find the places where they used to have changing rooms/bathhouse. I've had great success finding necklaces and rings.
Good luck on the hunt if you decide to do it.

Yeah. I've looked around just with my eye and I have found a ton of beer caps. There is an old church build in 1897 but it's basically the most "sacred" part of the campgrounds so nothing would be there. Although there are a lot of different small buildings in the woods that no one goes to. So I might have luck there.

My wife bought a 25-foot camper that's comfy at our spot in Grass Lake, Mi. A 1000-site campground set at the spot of the 200,000 person Goose Lake Music Festival held Aug 7-9, 1970. Goose Lake was a 3 day orgy of rock, drugs and debauchery, featuring the likes of Alice Cooper to Chicago, and everyone in between. I would have been 8 years old at that time.
The 'revolving' stage that allowed one band to start, while the last was finishing, is still there. I've detected the area once or twice with clad coin finds being the norm. What I want to do is hit the swimming area. Water detectors are where it's at nowadays.
When I listen to LED ZEPPELIN...so do my neighbors... Roll hunting since '77 Dirt fishing since '72

Go dig that church. I would start there if possible. Go around the foundation and around any large old trees near it. People would sit and nap under trees in pre a/c days and pockets would spill. Have fun!

The schoolhouse (it's a schoolhouse not a church, my bad) was moved off the original foundation. Now it's near the front part of the campgrounds. The original foundation is out in the middle of the woods. Almost no one goes out there, so I might find some old coins (I hope!) when I go out there again!

You'll find a lot of tent spikes, beer caps, and coins. So at the very least you'll never have to buy tent spikes again lol.

Your question should be what metal detector should you buy. No question you should do it. That old foundation will be a treasure trove of old coins provided no one beat you to it. Any old trails to it and everyone of the trees around it. Yes you will dig a lot of trash but cleaning up the environment is what you tell people you are doing.
Try the question again.
