Apparently this is called "ermine" in heraldry. The figures would be black on a white background, and they are supposed to be black otter tails. Quote: Got any Henri IV? I'll dig out something and post it if you don't.

Lovely coin, pepactonius! My few French hammered coins are very poor and hardly worth posting. King Louis-Philippe did much to assist the restoration of Notre-Dame Cathedral in the 19th century. Here he is on an 1831 5-franc coin, minted in Bordeaux (K):

Henri IV demi franc, 1606 Angers mint   Henri IV double tournois, 1593 La Rochelle mint   Both of these coins are full weight, so any clipping would be weight adjustment.
