Evening all, just going trough my daily coins - on the reverse I see what looks like shadow doubles on the LB and JFM - what kind of doubling or condition does this represent. I also see double on the Obverse in Liberty - is this just a Master Die double (non value) error? Thank you for your time.

I think the die was worn. I'm not a pro though. So don't spend it till you get another opinion or two.

I agree with CM unfortunately. The way it was explained to me is that if the "doubling" stretches toward the rim in all directions then it's die wear.

Thank for writing, I am just a newbie myself. But I thought it was really interesting that they looked shadowed instead of what most of the double dies are.

I don't know, there might be something on the coin, (in the crevices).

Thanks, been having a lot of fun getting into the coins and emailing with the CCF members. So far a great experience :) (I haven't learned how to put the smilies into my posts yet)

The shadow will also be seen on a normal coin. If there are two shadows it could be a doubled die. (class 6 doubled dies are not as much of a spread, so you will see just one shadow. but the devices will be wider) But the lack of shadow is on the machine damaged examples. depending on the light (best if one light is used) one side will be light, the opposite side will show the shadow.

Hi your knowledge is leaps and bounds beyond mine. Is this what you mean? I did pictures of 2 coins, the one in question and another shield coin. I tried to get them at the exact angle under the same light so they could be compared. Thanks for your time.
