Here's a nice-looking Taxco coin, is it fake as the seller seems to suspect?

maybe, would really need coin in hand for complete examination; thinking about it for my counterfeit coin collection, not sure. Reverse condition seems too good for condition of obverse but again a hands-on is needed.

Just my Two Cents, but if a seller says it "might" be fake, and is trying to sell it, then it probably is fake...

The coin is not genuine. It is likely older, possibly made to commemorate the Revolution. It is collectible.

Remember when dealing with ebay - they technically still prohibit counterfeit coins. Now that the committee is gone there is no one to decide when coins are reported if they are fraudulent - so ebay now only terminates a sale when the seller clearly states the item is a counterfeit. This punishes the sellers who properly describe their coins but lets thieves operate brazenly.

I know the seller in this case and he is honest. The coin is a counterfeit and he is giving a great warning to anyone who cares to listen. He should not be reported to ebay because they might penalize him.

This kind of item is not a threat. The threat comes from organizations like the Beijing forgery ring that sell total crap. Worthless items where there is no chance of getting your money back.
