Two transactions to report since last checkin. #1. $3.50 in JFKs were fed into a self checkout at Walmart Neighborhood Market yesterday morning. #2. One JFK was used in a purchase this morning at a Circle K convenience store. The total transacted for this report is $4, which now leaves us with $87,574 remaining.

I'm surprised the self checkout accepts halves.

I was too when I first tried it, and now I use them to help get half dollars out there.
I just got back from an errand, where I was able to ditch only one JFK at a convenience store.
$87,573.50 remains.

Do the self checkout machines give halves back as change? It seems unlikely, as most people don't want to deal with them. They probably just get sent back to the bank.

I don't know if they give them back in change or not. I've never made the attempt to get anything back from them. I use them as a dumping ground for change that I want to get rid of. I'll take in a plastic ziplok baggie full of coins and feed the machine until I owe no more. BTW, not all Walmart Neighborhood Market self checkouts will take half dollars. The one nearest me does, and continues to do so in spite of all the half dollars I've dumped there. A word to the wise: DO NOT feed an Ike into these machines. I found out the hard way that if you do, you end up donating a dollar to Walmart.

I very highly doubt they give out half dollars in change at the self-checkout...

I doubt too that the machines give them out. I'm thinking they go off to the bank. I'll have to ask a teller how long they hold on to them, or if they go off to the Fed.
Anyway.......another $3.50 was spent at a Quik Trip, and the total remaining is now $87,570 even.

This evening my wife and I went out to take care of some things, and we stopped off to get her and her daughters some fountain drinks from a nearby Quik Trip. The transaction needed seven JFKs to complete it, which subtracts $3.50 from the amount listed in the previous post.
$87,541.50 remains.

This morning just one half dollar was used for caffeine acquisition purposes. This afternoon seven more were used for soda at a Circle K that I hadn't "hit" in over a week.
Spendage totals for the day thus far are four dollars, which revises the total downward to $87,537.
