I have been too busy to post on the forum since last January, but continue to spread the half dollar and $2 bill change giving. This has been an incredibly hard period for most farmers, myself included. Weather problems, shortages of seed, dramatically higher costs in no small part because of the president's tariff threats (including on the domestically produces supplies), labor shortages and interruptions to so many aspects of our customers' lives and many other issues have all had their impact even on my part of the economy - vegetables.
I track each week the amount of half dollars I get from the bank and then hand out as noted before and have only kept a few. I found it interesting that I have seen over 15 rolls of 2017D coins so far in the rolls I get. Also, last week there were two Mexican 10 peso silver coins in the machine rolled rolls! This is added onto the Panama 50 cent coin I got in December in one of the rolls. I note that except for a clueless young cashier or two and a few new customers, that the reaction I now get almost always is some variation on the phrase "that's so cool" or "I'm glad you still hand out the half dollars".
So here is the update since 16 January 2018 of usage. I have handed out in that time $32,458 in half dollars. Included in that was three rolls of 2017D uncirculated coins, and I have temporarily retained the other rolls of them for the time being with plans to either sell them or use them as a premium for loyal customers.... To be determined.
$25,745.50 to go
