Send it to anacs. It's relatively cheap and you don't need a membership to send it in. Dropped letter errors can bring BIG money

Thank you all for your comments, especially since I am clueless on this Imprint. I think it is about 50/50 on what it actually is. I seem to be the queen of MD, PMD and PSD. Like CoinMasters mentioned it would be best to send it with other good ones. Problem is besides a few confirmed die cracks, a couple of laminations and 1 die clash I don't have any good coins. I would love to think it is something different but with my track record so far on coins ?

Thanks for the tip on ANACS but even 75.00 is a lot for my family, so I will put it in my lock box for now at least until I get a couple of good DDO DDR coins to ship along with.

Quite exciting to think about the possibilities though.

Keep it in a 2x2 if you have one :D
I've still been pondering how/why someone would counter stamp this if it's not a dropped letter block. But I'm still leaning towards PMD.

I think someone cut the TED MER (all in one piece) out of another penny and placed it on this penny, and hit it dead center with a 20 oz hammer. They placed a board underneath to protect the obverse. They probably thought they could fool the experts and make money. As evidenced by this post, the experts are not fooled.

CoinMasters: The imprint would be reversed if that was the case :D

Yes you're right. Hmm... Okay they cut out the TED MER, and punch it into a softer metal, which they fill with a molten harder metal, which they punch into a penny.

^ after all that processing, I dont think id be possible to get a punch so clear and proportional to this. I have no experience with dropped letters, so I can't tell, but id hold onto it until you can get anacs to look at it

It's really not that complicated. I think any coin (or part of a coin) could be a perfect reverse die for a softer metal which could easily be filled with a harder metal. I think that's what happened to the OP's coin. I agree she should hold onto it until she has six good ones to send with it.

CoinMasters: When you punch the cent into a softer metal you are making the same image as a die at the mint, so when you fill that with metal you get the same image as on a regular cent again which does not explain how they reversed the image :D This is what has been keeping my head in a loop

Haha I don't why I keep trying to follow this-you guys are messing my brain up...too funny tho I am curious as heck also but man my brain hurts..I think CM was trying to say they just fill the new softer dies letters in with hard metal then take it out somehow like the same scenario as a dropped letter in the minting process then stamped in on this coin but I can't see that either-I'll bet we will never know...P.S. My brain was fully messed up before all of this,no worries...

And that's what gets me, they would have to cast each individual letter and line them up then hammer them in to get it the right way.
