This is the re-engraved variety, most evident on the date. For 1940, the total 1c mintage was 300K, with 6 obverse dies. Was there only 1 RE die? If so, the mintage would be perhaps ~50K? It's an interesting variety to look out for.

Thanks! I was wondering what RE stood for in my Charlton. Can you show a "non RE" for comparison?
