I know the majority of people here are hating on this nail. I was in the bidding for a little while, but once it made the news it's gonna skyrocket.

You don't have to worry about things like collars if you made the dies (clandestinely hubbed off a dime) in a competent private machine shop.

Sel, are there any die diagnostics that you're using to come to this conclusion.

I do not hate it. I do not even hate the person (or persons) who fabricated it (inside the mint or not). It is what it is and a real error it is not. That is fine by me. The rebellious kid in me can still appreciate the effort.

That is just plain ignorant.

I could have made them one for half that.

Darn it! And I was sure my 25k bid would have been enough. Oh well

No diagnostics. All I have to go on are the pictures seen by us all and posted here, and a good read of Charles M. Larson's book
'Numismatic Forgery'.

I could be wrong, but to be honestly fair, I think that a dissenting voice in this case should be heard.
Thank goodness for the CCF!

I will strongly emphasise in this case: The theory I have expressed here may not be that of the CCF. Nevertheless, I am thankful that it has a chance to be read, and has given pause to be thought about.

Was this the same "error" that has been on ebay for a few months? Hard to believe it went for so much money though...
