I keep waiting for the "subject of this thread" to address the Forum on the issues presented here. He is still active and must have seen this discussion. Until he does address these issues, I will not respond to any of his requests for grading and/or variety attribution and would encourage others to do the same.

What say you Angelo?

Seated Nut, I agree with you and I've not commented on any of his "varieties" since I started seeing his poorly described items on ebay.

I suspect that there are others here that will also stop commenting on his stuff.

I don't suspect that he will address any of it here. If he did, he would ultimately threaten to have a Military General friend of his contact some of us as that was in his last response to me. Three Stars I think.

Now I am not being disrespectful to the General. I am just indicating the level of response received as the subject matter was being discussed between the discusser and the discusee:-)

I *may* be that "military General" to which he refers except that I am only a Lieutenant Colonel (ret'd, disabled out of the Army) for which I thank him for the promotion. It is extremely uncommon that an Enlisted soldier will know a General (or full Col or LtC or Maj; Captain or Lt, maybe) well enough to have him (or her) intercede on his behalf in a situation of this type. Since he and I have communicated off-forum a number of times, he may have been attempting to use my influence as a CCF Moderator and our common military background to help him out. It ain't gonna happen. He's been warned a number of times that he is simply imagining errors and varieties out of ordinary coins which might or might not have a valueless defect. He isn't helping himself at all by listing these imaginary anomalies as such on ebay nor does he enhance his sales with poor grammar and spelling in the auction descriptions and in his posts to the forum. However, as stated before, I do not think his actions are actually intentional nor do I think they are malicious. He is still relatively new to coins, is still gaining knowledge in his own way, but for whatever reason has not taken the advice of those who have attempted to steer him in the right direction.

Fred - I am VERY new to collecting, but I would never list a coin on ebay indicating that it's something it isn't. If he posted his coins here and was told with certainty by several experts that they were not valuable varieties or errors, then he has no business listing them as such on ebay. In my opinion, that IS intentional and malicious. The correct thing to do is to list it as a POSSIBLE variety with VERY detailed photos, then make it explicitly clear in the listing that the coin has not been attributed and may not be the variety or error he thinks it is. Make sure the buyers know this prior to bidding!

I've done it this way, even when people on the forum thought the coins I posted WERE the variety or error. Yes, doing it this way will more than likely result in a lower sales price, but it's the honest thing to do.

If the seller in question had potentially valuable coins and he didn't know for sure that they were genuine, he should have sent them in to be graded. If the coins were of low value, then he should have been more honest in his listing (as I described above). If he had some of the true *experts* from this forum (CC, foundinrolls, etc.) tell him that his coins were NOT a particular error or variety, then he had no business listing them at all, except of course as a normal circulated coin.
Rest in Peace

This topic is still in place because most of it is true, even though it did get off topic for a spell. However, the above statement certainly did not have to be added to the post. Your point was made in the first post and in this last post, and while I agree with most things that have been stated in this thread regarding the initial post material, you are now very close to the "line" without stepping over. Just a friendly heads up for you.

Tights 24, I understand. I didnt make that up so truth still prevails but if you feel I should delete that part of the commentary, I would be glad to do so.

It would also mean that you would need to delete the quoted reference to it.

let me know what you would prefer.

Thanks

No need to delete anything Bill. This helps serve as public notice that things will not get carried away here. This is not a pig pile, and if Angelo does not answer, I actually see no reason for this topic to get any more replies.

I don't care about "truth's" that do not pertain to the topic at hand, which is a seller that is not learning from us. I do believe you are quoting actual emails, but they are not pertinent here.

This has reached a point where further discourse, especially if the seller in question were to post here, could not possibly remain civil. It wasn't civil in the first place, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but the point has been made.

It is likely that this topic will be revisited.
