Hey all,

Been lurking the forums for quite some time, and really enjoy the threads, so figured it's time to join :)

I was hoping some of you morgan grading experts could give me a guestimate grade on this coin. I am still learning when it comes to US coinage. I put it at an AU-55/58 or so, but I could also be way off. Sorry about the bad pictures, about the best I could do on my cellphone.

Thanks all look forward to your replies.

MS63, not PL. Not "too" far off for a NNC basement slab.

to CCF -- glad to have you here, please jump in as much as you'd like!

Really? Thanks a lot for the response paralyse. I am still trying to figure out the AU/UNC border with these Morgans lol. I find it so hard to tell as so many I have looked at appear to have wear above ear or the hair above eye, but I am told it's a weak strike.

Lol, I have heard the horror stories about NNC, so I basically determined it was not cleaned from the pictures and then assumed it was no better than AU-58 for value.

I do not see any signs of wear, and the strike is decent, the 1879-1881 S mint Morgans all tended to be well struck and very nice.

I'm thinking 63 here. Another spot-on NNC call.
Rest in Peace

I'd go as high as 63 on this one.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. Nice to be part of such a friendly community. I have been browsing the grading forums quite extensively since this post and seem to be getting the hang of the morgans :)

I have a couple other NNC (well raw let's be honest) morgans, which i'll get up in a bit as well.
