No way Ike's go the same route as Morgans. I don't see Ikes getting that popular. I think the price remains flat for the short term, that is for next 5-10 years. If you collect them then be a buyer, but investment is totally different than collecting.

Quote:I'm a coin collector and I like the Ike dollars and I have a complete set in a Dansco Album and I recently put together a certified set of just the Silver Ike's in Proof and MS grades. Well done. Quote: No way Ike's go the same route as Morgans. I don't see Ikes getting that popular. Unless everyone wants to be more like me and trust me, no one should ever have to be like me.

Quote: I walk by stacks of brown box ikes at every small coin show and they can't give them away. The last show I saw them (all dates) selling for between $8-$12. At the end of the show the dealers packed them all up and left with them. Heck even at the local antique malls they are in almost every case with coins and are priced at around $14 with the always present 20% off. Bummer. Where the heck are you? I'm still looking to get a '73 brown Ike and ebay and coin shows they're always in the 20s. Too frugal (cheap!) for that. Using the government cpi calculator, the $10 issue price would be $53 today!

I buy them when they are cheap, or I can get what I feel are good examples.. The best part about being an Ike collector, is they are overlooked, bY the vast majority of people.. There has been an awakening of Ike collectors, I have felt it

The Ike's in the link's above are not brown Ike's. The are clad Ike's. Brown Ike's are sliver proofs. called brown Ike's because they come in a brown box, like theses.

With silver at its current price now 13.96 or 14.00 ballpark.... the silver value of a Ike dollar is a round 4.40 give or take a few cents. Is that correct?

As stated, Brown Ikes are 1971-1974 40% silver proofs, packaged for sale to collectors, called that for the brown collored box they come in..They are commonly milky or hazy, likely from poor packaging in their slabs..."71 and '72 are the most common with '74 being a better date and '73 being the key..Blue Ikes are business strike, also packaged for collectors in those same years but in cello wrappers and I don't think one date was better than the other..Hope jbuck will correct me if that info is incorrect! Starting to get a love for Ikes!

I bought brown Ikes when originally issued by the mint. I have long since set them free from their original packaging due to hazing.

Quote: My concern with buying brown box Ikes for a long-term investment is the tendency to develop milky surfaces due to a poor seal on the packaging. If you can get a good deal on a un-toned example, go for it, but I'd recommend storing it very carefully. That has been my experience. I have picked through several brown sets in the past and most have been milk-spotted. I did purchase two browns in the box that were spot free, at $7 ea. The cost tends to go up or down following current silver prices.
