They were pretty lame security features that could have been simply added in the die. As if the general public can't buy a laser engraver because they're soooooo restricted (sarcasm).

Quote: the page shows that someone already asked this question, and it has been confirmed that (for the loonie at least) the security features are not present on the 2016 coins.
I ordered the set because Mint employee Chad said on the mint's webpage that the security feature was NOT on the loonie. The set arrived and clearly that employee needs some education. The security feature is there. They have changed the large picture on the website to show the security features however the thumbnails still show the no security feature and date on the reverse. This will be another return to the Mint. $25 bucks for $3.40 worth of common pocket change and a 50 cent piece is not going to fly.

It appears the photos on the RCM website have been updated. FYI, these sets are also at Canada Post outlets for those who want to view.

I was just going to post that my question was answered today; Quote: Thank you for your question. Due to a miscommunication, the Loonie and Toonie do have security features on those coins. The correct images now appear on the website. As well, the 25-cent coin does have the year 2016 on it, also now currently reflected on the product page. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Please note that previous images may still be cached in your browser. Please refresh the page to see the updated coin images. Bummer.

...but, they still have this incorrectly posted; Quote: Caribou: An enduring symbol of the Canadian north, the majestically-antlered caribou has remained a Canadian icon since first appearing on the twenty-five-cent piece in 1936. too bad the 1936 quarter looked like this; Even if the Caribou design was created in 1936, it no more appeared in that year on our circulating money than the 'Bluenose', 'Beaver', or 'Maple Leaf' appeared in 1936 on our ten cent, five cent, or one cent pieces... After this fiasco about the loonie, toonie, and quarter, I am thinking that maybe the RCM has been outsourcing the web design staff to people who haven't got a clue?
