Found this 1973 s silver dollar in a proof set, I'm not sure if it is 40% silver or silver clad set. I don't know how to tell, anyone know? The reverse is doubled. split serif's everywhere, please have a look. I'm looking for information on doubled reverse but can't find anything.Hoping someone has one like this.

The Ikes in proof sets are cupronickel clad. The 40% silver clad Ikes were sold individually, they are also known as "Brown Ikes" due to the faux woodgrain pattern on the box. It does appear to be a doubled die but I am unable to attribute it.

Should be a clad based on the original government packaging (OGP) as given above. You can confirm with the tissue test, which helps when you find them free (outside of their OGP).

That appears to be a TDR, no? Very cool. Check at http://www.ikegroup.info or variety vista?

Thank you "biokemist6" and jbuck, I really like the tissue test, I thought it was nickel clad but was not certain. I can't find any info on it. If someone knows about this coin please let me know, the only one's I have found are double die obverse. Thanks again..............dinkyblue

Here is how the tissue test works:
1973-S-Eisenhower-Dollar-Silver-Proof-Set-Double-Die-Reverse
Place a known silver coin (not a toned one) on the left and place the questionable coin on the right. Lay a single ply tissue over the coins and you will note the silver ones look whiter in color. (This also works in albums to see if you have the right clad/silver coins correct without removing them from the album.
Rest in Peace

Thanks, Coop. I've never seen the tissue test pictured that way.

Side-by-sides always better clarify most debatable substrates of any nature.

Great work

I would become a member of the ikeGroup and post this on their forum. It might take a day or two for a response but the big ike boys hang out there and can give you more solid advise. I wouldn't do anything until.I know what I'm dealing with. Being in ogp could add value! Or not?
