I have been building my Jefferson set for about a month now and I am doing PCGS with varieties! I just take it one coin at a time from the local shops around here and from raw coins they have that I'll send in to grade next month or so... It's fun but it's going to take me a while to get it done... I do pick up low grade PCGS coins that someone had sent in for grading for some reason and I use them to fill the holes in my set... I really wish John hadn't posted that link, I may have to go buy all of those now...

Wow.... Thanks for all the advice everyone, I really appreciate it... And I really enjoy the feeling of completing a set that I have found FROM CFR hunting or from friends.. The BU I know will be a challenge and I like challenges... And it is not that easy to find US coins here in Canada.... As Mike (Mcshilling ) will agree with, plus with the Canadian dollar so low it's all about finding the best deal I can..

My personal favorite way to find BU coins like Jefferson nickels is at a coin show. Many dealers carry these and you can compare different dealers lots for grade and price. Sure you can do this on ebay also but at a show you can see the coins in hand. And sometimes you get lucky. When I was building my BU Jefferson set I happened upon a dealer at a show who had recently purchased multiple albums and he was selling most of the coins individually for $1, including the 1950-D. I felt like a kid in a candy shop. Just saying.

Dave Enders or http://www.ebay.com/usr/johnscanlon...m1543.l2754. I used both when I was putting mine together. They both do runs. I did that for the later years. 60 and up. I also used mint and proof sets as well. for all the coins 59 and before, I purchased individually in hand. I think that is especially important for the War Nickels.

Finding this thread was a real stroke of luck for me. Thanks to all who gave internet contacts. I need the following Jefferson nickels to complete my collection: 1985-P, 2006-D, 2008-D, 2010-P, 2010-D, 2011-P, 2012-D, 2015-P, & 2016-P. Most of these are for replacements. I live in Southern California, so Philadelphia minted coins are tough to find. Most circulation coins I find are from Denver. I'd appreciate any help or ideas. It shouldn't be this hard to find nine coins, of low value and huge mintages Thanks, Jack

Thanks to everyone who reached out to me, I have completed my Jefferson nickel Series (including Proof Only Issues - Dansco #8113/8114). The earliest coins are circulated, and the more recent (64 - date) are BU. I am replacing my silver War Nickels with BUs and only need the 1943 -P, and S, and the 1945-D. I've done this War Nickel upgrade one coin at a time. Eventually, I'll replace all the circulated coins with BUs, but I don't have to hurry. It's a great feeling to complete any series. I started this set when I was 10 years old. I took a 45-year, temporary departure (military career, marriage, children, college, etc.) and just completed it this week. Special thanks to chipjones and dwizzer. Also, unending support and friendship from Earle42 (we're brothers from different mothers). Jack

Congratulations.
One gets a strong sense of accomplishment from completing sets and Jeffersons are one of the best.

Congrats on the completion! I've been searching through rolls for quite a while now, and love adding to the circulated collection in that manner. Down to only 17 left!

I felt like I had completed the Boston Marathon when I completed my circulated set from CRH.... If/when I can complete my Dansco with Proofs, will be like whipping MMA fighter Chuck Liddell in his prime for the title... I bought Mint & Proof sets from my coin shop to fill it to where it is...in my case I needed the other coins too for all the other albums. So buying Nickels one at a time was not the way to go for myself.

To bad your in Canada. In some places here in the USA there are numerous coin shows. At some you could easily find all of the Jefferson nickels in BU or better. At some shows I've seen entire sets for sale. On line sales and places like ebay could cost way more than it's worth but due to where your at, might be the best method. OR stick around here and possibly you could find a complete set from a member.

Quote: One gets a strong sense of accomplishment from completing sets and Jeffersons are one of the best. Completing the set is not so difficult but finding quality examples is a different problem. The 70's and 80's quality is an absolute joke IMO. I've searched thousands, and just like Memorial cents, I discovered Jefferson's are probably even worse when considering strike, die state and luster.

Some Ike collectors won't believe it but I consider two sided Gem Jeffersons with solid strikes to be the toughest of all moderns. You often see virtually perfect obverses or reverses but when you flip them over the other side is usually a dog.
