1978 Italian 200 Lire Mint Error Coin

DantheGrey New Member United States 18 Posts	Posted 02/04/2008 5:18 pm I have this 1978 200 Lire Coin (said to be the ugliest of all the Lire coin designs) but this one is definitely a doubled die or double strike. I'm leaning towards doubled die type but anyhow. I've not been able to find anyone or any references to such a coin existing. The bust on the obverse is very obviously doubled to the right and the legend shows doubling as well. The reverse appears to only be doubled in the center legend of "200 LIRE" Am having trouble uploading pics at this time. I will include some photos when I get back to this post but for now I was wondering if anyone has seen or heard of this type of Italian mint error. Still haven't quite figured out the uploading process yet. The pic doesn't due justice to this coin. The double image is apparent on the legend as well but not in this shot. foundinrolls Pillar of the Community United States 3507 Posts	Posted 02/17/2008 9:08 pm Hi, I can see what you are looking at but to be able to tell what causes the doubling will require larger pictures. Does the camera you are using have a macro setting? It allows you to get close-ups that would show more details. Thanks, Bill Report this Post to the Staff
DantheGrey New Member United States 18 Posts	Posted 02/18/2008 4:41 pm Hi bill, since taking those pics I built a gizmo that allows me to set up my Kodak dc on this little tripod I have.
