Hi all wasn't able to give this a good looking until now bought it and 3 other junk silver dollars at my LCS yesterday for $40 total. Is this what I think it is and an 1895S? Sure pretty worn and beat up but still... For $10 even common dates are great. Any opinions on possible value are appreciated!
Well GR, listing looking at ebay ones at this level seem to be at the 90-100 dollar range. Not bad for spending $10! Profits will help me upgrade my 1/10 oz gold trade for possibly a gold quarter Eagle! Maybe we will see ;)
Great find definitely a 1895 s. Why do lowball coins command such premiums though? I understand the rarer dates but I've seen common date ones go far past the book price.
1. Very few coins circulate enough to reach PO-01. 2. Most coins that do get that low acquire some sort of damage along the way. 3. There is a fairly narrow window between FR-02 and ungradable (missing identifying features). 4. It's interesting to imagine how many hands the coin passed through. 5. They look pretty cool.
