How cheap? Is this $30 the show stopper for you?

Quote:Remember "Allegory" coins? When one member here liked them and bought all three in separate, while RCM 3 months after offered them in the wooden box.. That was a bit different, they made a set out of the coins and inc a case... you couldn't buy the case separately like this case. Which was just another nail in the coffin for me... pulling that kind of stunt.

Mts, The $30 is not the factor in my decision to not buy the box. I just have doubts that it will be a quality product. Plus, I have many more $X for $X coins than the box would allow for and also store my coins in a safe and secure location that doesn't allow for bulky boxes that take up space. The idea of the box is fantastic but is marketed towards the entry level collector in my opinion. I don't really even have a use for the wooden MC box the mint sent me a few weeks back. The Master Club box is of high quality. This $30 box is not. Neither will house any of my coins.

Yes, I remember, Northerncoins.
By this wanted to say, that you spent near CAD 700 without getting a box, and later it was offered for free? While here it is "only" CAD 400 with possibility to get CAD 35 (with taxes) box ...

I just realized that there is only 7000 of the $20 for $20 boxes available. I wonder if this box will increase the value of the series. Will this box with a low "mintage", be sought after by the many thousand buyers of these coins?

I was curious, so just checked the mint for the box and was able to put 1360 in the cart.

Lots of great discussion on this item. One of the reasons I love this forum. Wouldn't have known about the box as I don't visit the RCM site every day. Stuff seems to pop up pretty fast lately! The box in question is described as "Fabricated from specialized paperboard enhanced using spot-raised ultraviolet technology to lend it a wood grain texture." Definitely would have purchased one when the series first came out or even a year or two later, not now. Sounds enticing and great for new collectors, however the alternatives available are perhaps better choices in the long run. Plastic felt lined tray (see through cover) $30- $35 which holds 35 27m encapsulated coins or the sturdy wooden box for $50 are much thinner and easier to store/transport. Next up....the 2016-2020 collection.

I got the 7000 "mintage" from an email from my rep and also on the RCM website.

Quote: Where are those cases available? Most Coin Dealers carry the black wooden cases and you can find them at nearly every show now. Wasn't sure if I was allowed to name brand names or distributors. Check out CAC or LH. The tray I mentioned fits into a larger box that holds similar trays for other coins/holders, etc.
