I am not sure if this is a die gouge,a misplaced D,or the bottom curve of a 5.any opinions will be greatly appreciated.

If you are talking about that hump between the middle of the 5's, I'd say it's probably a tiny die chip.

There appears to be a drop that changed the color on that area. I agree that the mark is a die chip. Note it curves back on the other side of the curve of the 5 as well.

The curve is behind the 5 not overlapping it most of the die chips I have seen are like a Cud or some of the surface is stripped away,is there a place on the net that shows different types of die chips because I might have seen some and thought them to be a die gouge.and I appreciate the help. |

To the left of the roof is a die chip like a Cud and to the right is a die chip that affects the surface these are the type I am familiar with. |

A Die Cud involves part of the rim design breaking off a die. Die chips are in the central area of coin. Die Cud on coin:  These do continue to chip away if the die is used longer after this event. What a Cud would look like on a die:   Piece of shattered die struck on a coin:  These are not to be confused with die chips. The value is much larger on a Die Cud. Die chips are most of the time, a non premium coin. |

A Cud is when the die breaks and leaves the area raised I was using a die chip like a Cud to explain the raised metal chip. and the other die chip I am familiar with is when the surface is altered seems like any time I try to explain something people take it literal and I have never seen a die chip that looks like a gouge and maybe gouge isn't the right wording but on the 1955 penny the curve is not like any die chips I am familiar with seeing. I know I don't have the best imagining but the quarter has 2 different types of die chips and there is a couple more I am familiar. |

As far a I know there is no special website just for chips. Cuds-On-Coins.com listing many variations of the Cuds and die chips in relation to BIE errors. Considering my very small knowledge base on coins thus far, if I had come across it I would have thought it was a die crack - because it runs under the devices. |

Thank you coincents,i guess I will put the coin up,just to see if in the future I find something like it or if someone makes a new site showing more types of die chips and thank you for your help coop I never thought about it being a die chip.
