I grew up in Texas, and have long been interested in Mexican coins. I got interested in the medals when a collector liquidated his vast Mexican medal collection back in 2008-2010 on ebay. They were inexpensive (more so than now), and there are many interesting designs. I collect mainly the silver medals, but there are gold and bronze and an occasional brass or white metal. The Mexican medals just stuck me as a nice collecting niche. The Mexico mint has a long tradition of minting medals, and there are several private mints that sometimes issue medals. Frank W. Grove published a catalog in 1972 "Medals of Mexico Volume II". I am trying to compile a record of Mexican medals issued since then. I probably have photos of 900 or so medals issued since 1972. I actually own a few of the medals that Grove used for the photos in his book. They were sold off a few years ago after his death. As for 1953, I didn't have anything top notch for that year.

I am enjoying it also. I have never seen most of them before, except for the first one{Railroad medal}. I have one too,but don't know anything about it. It apparently is not a mint medal, so who made it, and does it have any relatioship with the 5 Peso Railroad coinminted in 1950?

The 1950 medal was issued (privately) to commemorate the 7th Pan American Railway Congress in 1950. The 1950 Mexico 5 peso coin was issued (by the Mexico Mint) to commemorate the opening of a railroad line to the Yucatan Peninsula.

In 1970, medal issuance was dominated by the Soccer World Cup (Campeonato Mundial de Futbol). This is not one of those medals. 1970 Silver medal, 40mm, ~27g. Central Numismatica y Medalistica. Unknown mintage. Grove M-105a.
